Pascalle Deenekamp
Pascalle obtained a dual MSc degree in Life Science and Technology and Science Communication at Delft University of Technology. Her theses focused on environmental biotechnology and the transition of waste water to a source of energy and biomaterials. From 2018 – 2023 she was employed by the consulting engineering firm Royal HaskoningDHV as a process engineering specialist in waste water treatment.
The PhD project is about identifying VOCs (volatile organic compounds) that are indicative of specific diseases for poultry. These molecules are present in the air of poultry stables and detecting and identifying them could contribute to earlier disease detection. This research is part of NWA-ORC OBSeRVeD project, the goal of which is to develop an odour-based sensor (e-nose) for early detection of poultry disease.
